WCW: Our Woman Crush For Today Is Maya Horgan Famodu, Founder, Ingressive Capital

Our woman crush for today is, Nigerian-American entrepreneur, Maya Horgan Famodu, founder Ingressive capital, a venture capital firm that provides funding for African start-ups in the tech industry.

Maya Horgan Famodu who grew up in Minnesota, United States, was born on March 24, 1991, to a Nigerian father and an American mother.

Maya started her career working in mortgage banking at JPMorgan Chase and briefly worked in private equity research in New York. She left her private equity job in New York to go to Nigeria, with the hope of raising her own fund. However, at 23-years-old and with just 18 months experience in the industry, she didn’t get very far in finding supporters.

Over time, she realized the struggle of people close to her in getting capital for their businesses. This motivated her to establish Ingressive Capital in 2017.

Horgan Famodu also co-founded Ingressive for Good, a nonprofit firm that provides market entry, technology research and market operations services for firms and businesses expanding into Africa.

The entrepreneur said her mother also shaped her mindset on determination, having been in the army for 23 years and trying to command the respect of “misogynistic” men.

She co-founded the High Growth Africa Summit, a two-day conference on how to launch a high growth African business, and founded Tech Meets Entertainment Summit, a deal-focused event for African celebrities and tech companies to build revenue-generating partnerships.

African startups in the tech industry can now rely on getting funded through the activities of remarkable investors like Maya Horgan Famodu, another inspiring female entrepreneur in Nigeria.
