UI ranked 8th on African Universities Top 10 List

Nigeria has only one university in the 2015 ranking for African Universities and Higher Institutions by Journals Consortium.
South Africa, first on the list with University of Cape Town and has 5 other universities in the top 10; University of Pretoria in 3rd, University of South Africa in 5th, University of the Witwatersrand in 6th, Stellenbosch University in 7th and University of Kwazulu Natal in 9th.

This left Egypt’s Cairo University in the 2nd position, Kenya’s University of Nairobi in 4th and Nigeria’s University of Ibadan (UI) in the 8th position.Egypt’s Ain Shams University also clinched the 10th spot
Journals Consortium however stated that the rankings are based only on research publications.
“This ranking is based on research publications and citations from the last five years (2010 to 2014) as well as visibility on the internet,” the organization stated on its website.
UI scored a total of 41.22 points, just 3.8 points shy of number one University of Cape Town which had 45.02 points.

Founded on 17 November 1948, UI is the oldest and one of Nigeria’s most prestigious universities.
