A Nigerian born legal practitioner, Jude Nkama, on January 6, 2016, made history to becone the first African to be appointed as a judge in the 349th year history of the city and State of New Jersey, USA.
Dr. Jude Obasi Nkama is a former Governorship aspirant at the 2011 governorship election, hails from Ebonyi State Nigeria. Dr. Jude Obasi Nkama got his license to practice law in the city of Newark in 2002.
The city of Newark, NJ in the United States appointed three Nigerians into high level positions in its administration, just as Jude O Nkama becomes the first African to be appointed as judge in the 349th year history of the city and State of New Jersey.
Hon. Ras Baraka, Mayor of the City of Newark, NJ appointed Hon. Ugochukwu Nwaokoro as Deputy Mayor; Mr. Jude Obasi Nkama, Esq., as Judge; and Mr. Evans Anyanwu, Esq. as Chief Prosecutor of the city.
With the appointments, Newark becomes the only city in the U.S. with such high level appointments of Africans. Nkama becomes one of the only 3 African-born judges in the whole of USA, including Judge Oliver Mbamara of New York State.
Today, we remember and celebrate one of many Nigerians that has made remarkable impact in Africa and abroad. Dr. Jude Obasi’s deeds will never be forgotten.
