Tanzania welcomes Everton FC with culture, food and football

Tanzania welcomed  english top flight team Everton FC for a two-day tour as part of the club’s new sponsorship deal with African betting firm SportPesa, yesterday, July 13, 2017.

Fans were filled in the airport to catch a glimpse of the world class football players when their plane touched down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport in the capital Dar es Salaam.

Among the Liverpool-based Everton FC teammates received by Tanzania’s sports minister Harrison Mwakyembe was former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney who rejoined the club on Monday.

Upon arrival at the airport, the team went to a hotel in the capital where they engaged in traditional cooking lessons with Tanzanian chefs.
Some of the players also visited a local primary school, a hospital and then met with the Albino football team at the Uhuru Stadium where they were treated to some traditional Tanzanian dance displays.

The English team will play a friendly match against Kenya’s top flight team Gor Mahia at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium on Thursday.

Many fans came out to see Wayne Rooney while others travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo to see Congolese winger Yannick Bolasie who plays for Everton FC.

SportsPesa is the new shirt sponsor of Everton FC replacing Thai brewing company Chang which has been their main sponsor since 2004.
