South African cellar master at Kanonkop wine estate in Stellenbosch, Abrie Beeslar has been named the international wine maker of the year for the third time.
Beeslar who have been in the winemaking business since 2003 also bagged the prestigious title in 2008 and 2015.
At the international Wins and Spirit Competition ( WSC) gala ceremony on November 15, the prestigious award was presented to the hardworking south African out of over 5,500 entrees from 50 different countries.
Apart from being named the best wine maker of the year, Beeslar was also named the South African producer of the year as well as the winner of the trophy for Best Pinotage for the Kanokop Black Label pinotage, 2013.
Onus still have to be given however to the kind of nature and climate that Kanokop have been blessed with.
In an interview, Beeslar said ” to be named the world’s best wine maker of the year for the third time is something you never expect or hardly contemplate in your wildest dreams, so the award hasn’t really sunk in yet. I do know that the success can be attributed to the whole team working in the Kanonkop’s cellar and vineyards as well as the people who ensure that our wines receive international attention. It is the soil types, aspect and climate that gives me outstanding grapes with which to make wine.
He earned this award through His humility, coupled with his hardworking persona and his tenacity to be the best .
