Self Taught Nigerian-American Designer Muktar Onifade Is The Brain Behind VIZUVL GVDS

Your passion will always find you wherever and in whatever you do, just like the case of 27-year old American born Nigerian Muktar Onifade.

The self-taught creative director and seam maker with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, is one of the rising designer in the United States.

Onifade is the founder of a high-end brand called VIZUVL GVDS (pronounced ‘Visual Gods’) which he accidentally stumbled in his bedroom five years ago in Detroit while working as a Calibration specialist in General Motors.

Onifade was born in Lagos Nigeria before he and his family moved to America. He works with his brother who is a musician and songwriter to bring African heritage through his brand. His first collection was made outside and against African design which he used African prints.

VIZUVL GVDS is a luxury street wear brand which draws inspiration from both engineering and his African heritage to design handmade collections that focus on the minimal approach to Art and Fashion.
He has constantly revealed that the inspiration behind his career stems from his African heritage and his mechanical engineering background, minimalist objects and modern architecture. His brand is based on true balance between heritage and design. He has been known to achieve global successful African inspired designswith a luxury brand.

Onifade has been featured on NBC’s BLACK 2017 as one of the most innovative young, black pioneers in America and was recognized on the 2017 Forbes Africa 30 under 30 list.

Onifade is making history through his innovative fashion collection ( VIZUVL GVDS)  as he is discovering stories that he can produce beautiful African design from.
