Earlier in December, 2017 we reported that Oprah Winfrey was nominated for a Cecil B. Awards, making her the first black woman to attain this milestone, the renowned actress, talk show host and media mogul on the 7th of January was presented this award at Beverly Hills in US where she delivered an outstanding motivational speech which swept everyone present off their feet.
In her speech, she recollected how as a little girl she watched Sidney Poitier receive the Golden globe awards at the 36th anniversary as the first black man and how ironically, she was standing in his place, several years later, attaining the same feat while other little girls are watching her.
She heaped praises on her team and all those who assisted her up the ladder of success, further commending the Hollywood foreign press association for their consistency in relating the truth.
She also expressed heartfelt gratitude towards women who have had to endure years of constant assault and abuse, yet still have to deal with childbirth and normal day-to-day activities, making RecyTaylor-a woman who was gang raped by 6 armed white men in 1994, yet still managed to live to a ripe old age just shy of her 98th birthday- a case study.
“I want all girls watching here to know that a new day is on the horizon. And when that day finally dawns, it will be because of a lot of magnificient women, many of whom are right here tonight, and some pretty phenomenal men fighting hard to make sure they become the leaders who take us to the time where nobody ever has to say ‘me too’ again”
