Budding photographer, Oluwaseun Otitoola recently won the 2017 edition of the 9mobile photography competition.
24 years old otitoola emerged first place in the competition with his entry titled ‘ Fragment of CMS bookshop building’,ahead of other two finalists; Amanda Ihemebiri – “The NestOil Tower” and Taiwo Omotosho, for Lines Side by Side not just with his creativity but also his ‘real life’ pictures.
He was announced winner at the grand finale and award presentation ceremony on the 3rd of November at the 9mobile head office in Banana island, Lagos.
When asked in an interview what inspired him to participate in the competition, he said
” I don’t have a camera of my own but I love photography so I borrowed my friend’s camera to participate. I chose ‘Fragment of CMS Bookshop building’ because of the symbolic status of the building and its environs which tells the story of Lagos, both past and present”.
At the award ceremony,9mobile’s chief executive officer said in his speech
“9mobile photography competition is not about winning but about talent, creativity and innovation. The aim is to engage and empower budding photographers to fulfill their passion by using the power of digital media, online, social and mobile technology to capture compelling images that tell authentic Nigerian stories”.
Emotion laden Otitoola thanked the judging panel for doing an excellent job, further attesting to the fact that their decisions were fair and unbiased.
