Popular Nigerian documentary photographer, Yagazi Emezi has been awarded the Inaugural Creative Bursary Award by Getty Images.
After beating out strong international competitors, the 26 year old, Abia state- born emerged one of the six chosen and specifically selected by an industry-leading panel of the international photography platform for the cash award, emerging second place with Neema Githere as the first.
New of the award came to the public hearing after it was shared on the official website of Getty Images and she further confirmed it through a post on her instagram page(@yagazieemezi) on Tuesday, 30th of January,2018.
She wrote:” excited to announce that I am among the six recipients selected for @getty images creative bursary for emerging photographers.
Congratulations to the rest of the recipients. Ready for the challenge and looking forward to seeing how we make use of this opportunity to tell more of our necessary stories”

Emezi is a self-thought photographer, vlogger and a graduate of cultural anthropology and African studies from the University of Mexico. Her entrance into limelight was heralded by her award winning photography project ‘Another tale by moonlight’.
Her steady rise to fame was boosted by her return to Nigeria and she has since worked with major media houses like Al Jazeera.
