Nigeria’s Tony Elumelu Becomes First African To Receive Eisenhower Global Entrepreneurship award

Nigeria’s Tony Elumelu, the group chairman of United Bank for Africa, plc and founder of the Tony Elumelu foundation has just received the Dwight D. Eisenhower Global award for entrepreneurship. Becoming the first African to clinch the prestigious award.


The award was presented to Elumelu at the gala and award ceremony which held at the cipriany on Wall Street in New York on December 4th,2017 by the Business Council for International Understanding ( BCIU) represented by Kip Forbes and Anne Eisenhower.


He bagged this award based on his outstanding efforts toward promoting entrepreneurship in Africa and across the globe and creation of the Tony Elumelu foundation which has funded over 3,000 African entrepreneurs till date.



At the gala, former american president, George bush acknowledged his efforts and commended him also on his positive achievements towards entrepreneurship.
” to receive an award founded by the president Eisenhower has added meaning. I am impressed with Tony’s philanthropic I initiatives which are powering job creation and entrepreneurship in Africa.” He said.


Elumelu in his speech, dedicated the award to his family and friends and went further to say ” being recognized in a global entrepreneurship award is a great honor. What our entrepreneurs in Africa need is powerful leadership to further energize, encourage and motivate them yo transform the continent.
