Hellen Mukoro, a Nigerian-born Spanish lawyer, Politician, Writer, Coach, Legal Consultant and Forensic Expert who has been working towards the reconstruction of Africa is the first woman and the first Immigrant to run for Spanish Presidency.
Born in Nigeria to Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Mukoro from Delta State. She attended Saint Ita’s Girls College, Sapele in Delta State. She migrated to Spain after working in the Governor’s office in 1992 when she was 23. She holds a Diploma Certificate in Agriculture at College of Agriculture, Anwai Delta State, A Degree in Social Education, Professional Master’s Degree in Criminology, Superior Certificate in Criminal Law, Postgraduate Certificate in Tax and Labour Management, Postgraduate Certificate in Immigration and Domestic Violence.
She lives in the eastern city of Denia, runs a Legal Firm and has worked as a Legal Consultant to Red Cross Society in Spain. She is the CEO and President of the African Europe Chamber of Commerce and the National Agency of Forensic Experts, Mediators and Technical Professionals of Spain and Europe.
She gained grounds in the political scene in Spain having founded Union De Todos which means ‘unity for all’. She ran for Mayor of Denia in Spanish Eastern Province of Alicante near Valencia but lost the election on May 24, 2015. This gained her prominence in Spanish politics which made her highly recommendation for the office of the prime minister. She emerged as the Presidential candidate for the new Opposition Party. And in 2015, ran for the presidential seat in Spain.
Mukoro has been repeatedly quoted that her interest in Spanish politics was for Africa. She has drawn attention to Africa, correcting the assumption of many foreigners as Africa being a deadbeat continent. She has also earned the respects of so many Africans and foreigners. Her story will continue to inspire Africans who have lost hope in making it in Europe and also, to women that equality and equity is achievable.
