Nigeria’s First Lady, Aishat Buhari Bags ‘Women Of Valour’ Award In US

The wife of the Nigerian President, Aishat Buhari has been recognized and presented with the ‘Woman Of Valour’ Award, by the Nigerian Women Association of Georgia (NWAG). The award was presented during the association’s 18th Annual Awards Banquet which was held in Atlanta, USA.

The NWAG, which was founded in 2000, is a group of accomplished Nigeria women, residing in the Georgia, United State going around celebrating the efforts of Nigerians who are making impact in the country and in Diaspora. The event was attended by officials from the Nigerian Missions in New York, Atlanta and Non-profit Organizations from across America.

Aishat was recognized for the tremendous works she is currently doing in supporting Nigerian women, girls and children. She has helped to bring global attention to the challenges facing the women in Nigeria. Apart from this, she is also advocating for the equal rights and respect and access to education for women and girls, opening rebuking child marriages. Aishat truly is carrying out the duties of a First Lady as she is going around helping Nigerians.

Other award recipients include African-American, Dr. Gloria Herndon who is the first female black official at the US Embassy in Nigeria and she also taught at the Ahmadu Bello University. She was awarded with “Friend of Nigeria” Award. Dr. Elisha Attai, President of African Women in Leadership Conference was awarded with ‘Vanguard” Award and a Philanthropist, Dr. Mohammed Ladan, promoter of education among the indigent students in Northern Nigeria, he won the ‘Unsung Hero’ Award. Mrs. Florence Okafor who is dedicated member won the 2018 member of the Year.
