Nigeria’s Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Honoured For Fighting Gender Inequality With Her Words

This year has been a great one for globally celebrated Nigerian author Chimamanda Adiche has we has lost count of the recognitions she alone has gotten, the latest od all was given to her alongside English writer and activist, Scarlett Curtis for fighting gender inequality with written words.

Both authors were honoured by international organization Equality Now on Thursday, November 21 at the annual Make Equality Reality Gala in New York City.

According to reports, the night was filled with art, advocacy, and entertainment to inspire activism, with an interactive musical number by the Resistance Revival Chorus, a satirical political sketch by Stacey Kramer, and a riveting spoken-word performance about sexual assault by Katie Capiello.

Chimamanda is the critically acclaimed author of five books, a MacArthur Genius Grant winner, and is even featured on Beyoncé’s hit song “Flawless.” While accepting th honour, Adiche stated that she was a feminist long before she knew what the word meant.
