Nigeria’s Asisat Oshoala Wins Fifth African Women’s Player Of The Year Award 

Just as the popular saying in the trending tiktok sound, “Asisat Oshoala agba baller” which signifies a top rated footballer. The super falcon striker has been awarded the 2022 CAF women’s Player of the Year for the first time.

The Nigerian-born footballer who made this history on Thursday, in the gala held in Rabat, Morrocco, had been been awarded the best African female footballer in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2019.

The award was given out for the first time in 2021 with Nkwocha winning it four times and Oshoala taking it ahead by winning it five times.

The 27-year-old is a professional footballer who plays as a striker for Primera División club FC Barcelona Femení and the Nigerian women’s national team. She formerly played for English clubs Arsenal and Liverpool, Chinese club Dailan, and Nigerian clubs Rivers Angels and FC Robo. 

Amidst the arsenals of awards, She also has other achievements which include being the first African (and Nigerian) player to score a goal in a UEFA Women’s Champions League final and has helped Barcelona reach the semi-finals three straight years, and one final.

Ghanaian footballer, Evelyn Badu was awarded the CAF inter-club best female footballer taking down Andile Dlamini, Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper and Bambanani Mbanie, South Africa defender.

The Ghanian footballer won the award after her wonderful performance in the inaugural edition of CAF Women’s Champions League.  

Senegal forward Sadio Mane was crowned the best male footballer in Africa for 2022 and nailed the CAF African Player of the year award for the second time.
