Winner of MTN mpulse, Kate David, a student of Intimacy with Christ International school became MTN’s CEO for one day.
In promoting digital literacy, MTN Nigeria organized a spelling Bee competition that featured students from all over the country. The competition is usually for students between the ages of 9-15.
This is not the first in its kind as in the past year, same competition was organised for school children and a certain 13-year-old Akinyele Ademoyegun of Kaydel Comprehensive College, Ikorodu, Lagos emerged as the winner, and got over seven million naira in cash and prizes such as smartphones and laptops were won by the top 20 spellers. Akinyele’s school, Kaydel Comprehensive College received state-of-the-art ICT devices while his English teacher also received the sum of N350,000 cash and a laptop.
At the first stage, over 10,000 students were said to have qualified and in the second stage 1000 students competed for the grand prize.
This year, 14 year old Kate David a student of Intimacy with Christ International School, Mararaba, Nasarawa State became the winner of the MTN mpulse spelling bee competition when she spelt the word “acquiesce” correctly.
As a way of rewarding all participants, the first prize was given the sum of 2.5 million naira as a cash prize, with other items such as laptop, a smartphone, and an MTN goody bag.
Added to that, she also became MTN’s CEO for one day.
Aside that, a grant of #350,000 and state-of-the-art ICT devices will be given to the winner’s English Teacher and school respectively.
Other participants like the first, second, and third runners-up, Agbo Capable from Intimacy with Christ International School, Nasarawa State, Okechukwu Rejoice representing Glorious covenant school, Rivers State, and Daniel Ann, a student of Glorious Covenant School Rivers State and other finalists were also awarded with prizes worth over 5.7million.
