Meet Jacob Odulate, Nigerian Pharmacist Who Invented Alabukun Powder

The late Jacob Odulate, a renowned pharmacist also known as blessed Jacob, is the brain behind the popular Nigerian indigenous drug Alabukun powder about 100 years ago.

He personally produced the powder in his home town in Abeokuta with the help of his wife and children as well as other brands like Alabukun Mentholine and an annual journal called Alabukun Almanac circulated around Abeokuta and it’s environment between 1920 and 1950.

The product gained wide acceptance in Abeokuta when it first came out in 1918 and later spread across, now the product boast of being one of the oldest Nigerian indigenous drugs and still in existence till today, that was made on a table in a small laboratory without external supervision.

Alabukun is a mix of European and traditional medicine, the Nigerian pharmacist got ingredients to make the powder from Liverpool in the United Kingdom like acetylsalicylic acid and caffeine as well as local herbs to create the powder.
The Alabukun brand is 102 years old this year and it is still been used by lots of Nigerians till today, Few international and local drugs have been able to stand the test of time like the brand has done, making it an iconic Nigeria brand.

Jacob Odulate had a mind to imprint his name on earth and he has successfully done so with his invention.
