MCM – Our Man Crush Today Is Arthur Zang

Following our norm at Espact to celebrate entrepreneurs and individual, today’s celebration is in honour of the impact Arthur Zang has made in Cameroon, Africa and the world.

The man standing on today’s MCM podium is the Chief Executive Officer of Himore Medical Equipments and inventor of the CardioPad.

Life as a Computer Science Engineer couldn’t have been more purposeful if it hasn’t been utilised. This is exactly what Arthur Zang did.

Arthur Zang is a gifted innovator who likes to put his ideas into practice and see them through to final completion. Having graduated from the University of Yaounde, Cameroon with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science in 2007, he would later go on to do his Master’s at the National Advanced School of Engineering of Yaoundé, two years later, so he could gain the necessary expertise to design the Cardio Pad.

The need to invent the CardioPad came from his training experience working at a local hospital. As a keen observer, he noticed an alarming medical problem in Cameroon. The country had an estimated population of 22 million people but only 60 certified cardiologists. This implied a ratio of 1 cardiologist to over 3 million people. To make matters worse, most of these cardiologists were located in Yaounde and Douala.

In 2012, he Invented CardioPad, which is the first of this kind in Africa and a cost-effective way of providing health care services to those living in the remote rural parts of Cameroon and ultimately in other developing countries.

In 2016, he designed and launched the Africa Cardiac Care Program which is a Pan-African health care program allowing patients from a low income background to benefit from full cardiac screening at least once a year.

He has been named one of TIME Magazine’s “30 under 30 People Who are Changing the World” and was included by Forbes Magazine in their “30 under 30” list. He is also a recipient of the African Mobile Award, showing just how significant his work has been in revolutionizing the medical industry.

Through his invention and drive to provide accessible medical care, Arthur has indeed earned his way to being crowned Espact’s Man Crush Monday.
