MAN CRUSH MONDAY: OUR MAN CRUSH IS TIMI DAKOLO

It is Monday, great minds and our crush of the day is iconic superstar Timi Dakolo. Known for his impactful, insightful and lovely songs, our MCM also stands out in the Nigerian music industry for his often-expressed love for his family and country, Nigeria.

Dakolo has, with his actions, utterances, and music shown he is a man who takes pride in his wife, Busola, and their lovely kids who he regularly gushes over on different social media platforms and during stage performances.

To show his love for country, Dakolo wrote and sang “Great Nation”, a song filled with positivity and good enough, we daresay, to be the nation’s anthem.

Born in Ghana, Dakolo hails from Bayelsa state and holds a degree in communication studies from the University of Port Harcourt. His music career kicked off in his local church when he was just 12 years old. In 2003, he joined the singing group Purple Love as a founding member, dominating the Port Harcourt club circuit, before the group was disbanded in 2005 as it members went in pursuit of their academic goals.

In 2006, Timi auditioned for the reality music show Idols West Africa in Calabasas, getting a spot on the final list of 24. He would go on to win it after amassing the highest number of votes cast.

Timi released his first single comprising three songs in October 2009.  In 2011, he released the song “There’s a Cry”, “Iyawo Mi” in 2014, “Wish Me Well” in 2015, “The Vow”im 2016 and “Medicine” in 2017.

He is currently signed with Lone Records/Now Muzik and is one of the judges on The Voice Nigeria.

Today, we celebrate this amazing vocalist and the first (and only) Nigerian winner of West Africa Idols, Timi Dakolo.
