You look at the Banana Island residence, the expensive cars, the glamorous pictures and the fact that everyone knows of or about her website, and you forget Linda Ikeji had quite a humble beginning.

When described, she is said to be a writer, entrepreneur, former model and the big one: highest paid blogger in Nigeria. This did not start in one day or just fall into her laps.

Born and raised in Nkwerre in Imo state to Catholic parents,, Linda started writing early as early as when she was 10. She left for Lagos when she was 18 to start her university education in the Universty of Lagos as an undergraduate in the department of English Language though Mass Communication was her course of choice.

Upon graduation, she launched her her media company, Blackdove Communications, a modelling agency and events management outfit. She began her modelling career in 1998 and quit in 2005.

In 2006, she started what would be her major selling point: blogging. The thing about this was that it was just a hobby. This was 2006 Nigeria. Internet service was not what it is today. The phones available were not this advanced and you really had to go toa cybercafe to get work done on the internet.

Nowadays, a Linda post garners thousands of views in the first hour of been posted with hundreds of comments. That was not so at the start. Some articles went weeks without comments. She persevered. When blogging became a money maker for her, she kept at it. When she was threatened with lawsuits, she persevered. And when the time came for it, she revamped her website to keep with the times.

Hers is a story of resilience and carving a niche for herself in a nation that does not really give you all the advantages you need.
