Jemila Malafa Becomes First Nigerian Female Commodore From North

Congratulations are in order for Jemila Malafa, a Navy officer who just got promoted to the rank of a Commodore by the Nigerian Navy, becoming the first female from the North to become a one-star general.

A position which is equivalent to the Army rank odBrigadier general, Malafa is the first female from the Northern extraction to achieve this height, a feat that have been attained by very few women in the nation.

Born in 1965 in Gombi local government in Adamawa state, Malaga joined the Nigerian Navy in 1988. She got commissioned as midshipman in 1990 and has since been working her way up the success ladder in the naval sector.

At an event which held on Monday, 18th of December in Abuja, Malafa was decorated by the chief of naval staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Ibok Ete-Ibas who was represented by the chief of policy and plans naval headquarters Rear Admiral Henry Babalola.

In his speech, Babalola, a representative of the chief of naval staff commended her on her feat saying that the promotion was well deserved, owing to her discipline, resilence and commitment to the Nigerian Navy.

‘”I therefore urge you to see the promotion as an opportunity to do more service to the entire nation. It is only then you would be convinced of adding value to our noble profession and by protecting the nation’s assets, especially the maritime domain” he said.

In her speech, Malafa expressed her delight at her promotion, stating that it would motivate more female officers to strive to attain ranks higher than hers.
