Nomvuyo Treffers has just made a major career milestone, at the same time solving one of the topmost problems for women especially Africans by creating the perfect swim cap, specially built to accommodate heavy and voluminous hair.

Inspired by the daily struggles she had to face whenever she decides to swim, this mother of two, designed a swim cap made of silicone material which is very effective in protecting your curls against the harsh chlorinated water. This cap is most ideal for the black natural hair which has a high water retention capacity and takes longer to dry as a result.

A photographer by profession, Nomvuyo decided to create ‘swimma cap’ as a means of satisfying a very frustrating problem and became an online sensation when pictures of her work hit the social media recently.

“the idea came from a personal frustration I’ve had for many years. In South Africa, we have gyms that do not allow anyone in their pools without a swim cap. I just couldn’t not buy one that fits my hair. In 2015, I finally decided that I would act on the idea and in 2016, ‘Swimma cap’ was launched.

Not only has she brought down one major problem women face, Nomvuyo (@swimma_caps on twitter) has taken to he twitter page to celebrate many swimmers who are no longer limited because of their hair.

Her brand has transcended beyond the confines of her country and is being appreciated across the corners of the world.
“the love and support from social media which I appreciate serves as a confirmation that many people who have lived through the frustrations my daughters and I have, can relate and are giving swimmas a big nod. The swimma brand is now being celebrated across the world”.
