How To Handle Workplace Stress

Stress at workplace is prevalent these days , it affects most people at different times and its important we learn how to manage it so as to be productive at work.

Stress occurs when there’s pressure to meet a deadline, and employees may likely turn on each or blame each other for the stress they are under.

In a situation where your boss is demanding, the best strategy will be to remain calm and also be meticulous with your work.

There are different factors that causes work stress. It could be low salaries, excessive workloads, lack of social support, few opportunities for growth, and not having control over job-related decisions.

Work-related stress does not just vanish when you get home for the day. It accumulates and take a toll on your health and well-being. A work-related stress can contribute to problems such as headache, difficulty concentrating, short temper, and sleep disturbance. However, chronic stress can lead to insomnia, anxiety, high blood pressure, and depression.

There are steps that to take to manage stress

  • Identify the situations that create the most stress and how you respond and to them. You should also take note of your thoughts, feelings, including the people and circumstances involved. Identifying all these can help you find patterns among your stressors.
  • Develop healthy reactions: Instead of attempting to fight stress with alcohol, taking caffeine, or drugs, you can develop healthy choices like yoga, reading books, or playing games.
  • Try to relax: Strategies such as deep breathing exercises, meditation and mindfulness can help melt away stress. You can start by taking few minutes everyday to focus on a simple activity like walking, enjoying a meal, and breathing.
