How Raymond Dokpesi Pioneered Private Radio Station In Nigeria

Raymond Anthony Aleogho Dokpesi is a Nigerian media entrepreneur who entered the Nigerian mass media industry with his company DAAR Communications a parent body to Africa Independent Television (AIT)Raypower which is the first private radio station in Nigeria.

Raymond Dokpesi launched Ray Power FM, the first Nigerian private FM radio station in 1994. It was aired and started broadcasting beautifully across air waves in Lagos, Nigeria.

Two years later, the African Independent Television (AIT) which is also the first private TV station in Nigeria. Today, AIT is a household name as it is now received in America, Europe, Mexico, Caribbean among other continents or countries of the world.

It is also worthy of note that DAAR Communications Limited is a product of the deregulation policy of the Federal Government of Nigeria in the broadcasting industry.

He is a man of excellence, hardwork and service as he is one of the many who have served diligently while he worked with government facilities before he branded out to start his media business.

Raymond Dokpesi is also the pioneer of the first Nigerian TV station to run 24 hours nonstop in Nigeria’s broadcasting industry entirely.

Apart from pioneering the first radio station in Nigeria, Dr. Dokpesi is also the pioneer of the first indigenous shipping line in the country hence that was why his deep and insightful intellectual power was put to use in the formulation of the Nigerian Shipping Policy Decree of 1986.

Raymond is a recipient of Dr. Kwame Nkurumah Africa Leadership Award and Gold Medal for Excellence in Business Practice. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Institute of Directors(IoD) 2007 Entrepreneurial Award.

Raypower and AIT are frontlines in the Nigerian mass media sphere and through their different programming styles and audience understanding they have been able to reach millions of homes in Nigeria.

Both Raypower and AIT are available in more than fifteen Nigerian states, their wide coverage and excellent broadcasting has served Nigerians in terms of education, entertainment, and bring reports about different activities of the country into lime-light.
