Onyeka Akumah is a serial entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of Farmcrowdy, Nigeria’s first digital agriculture platform with a network of over 420,000 farmers in connecting them with finance, market access, and technical expertise across all states in Nigeria.
Onyeka was recently named one of Africa’s Person of the year winning the Agricultural Champion of the Year 2020 across the continent for the work and impact Farmcrowdy has had on hundreds of thousands of farmers.
Farmcrowdy has created and is leading a new category of online platforms that is focused on increasing food production while engaging Nigerians to digitally participate in Agriculture.
The Farmcrowdy platform allows Farm Partners to sponsor any farm of their choice including Maize Farms, Poultry (Broiler) Farms, Cassava Farms and Tomato Farms. The Farm Partners then gets bi-weekly updates about their farm progress including pictures and videos from the farmers.
Also, Farm Partners can visit their farms if they wish to at any point in time to learn about the farmer they’ve partnered with and the farm products they are working on.
Onyeka graduated from the Sikkim Manipal University, India where he obtained a distinction in his first degree in Applied Information Technology.
He decided to fuse Digital Marketing with the skills and learning experience he had acquired while focusing on the user experience and the customer journey of selling products and services online, thereby creating the first digital agricultural platform.
Onyeka is also the Co-Founder of Crowdyvest (an impact crowdfunding platform), Co-Founder of Plentywaka (Nigeria’s premier bus hailing platform) and Co-Founder of RentSmallSmall (a leading home rental platform that allows monthly rental payment in Nigeria).
Onyeka currently sits on the Board of leading tech start-ups in New York and Lagos and constantly seeks ways to impact on Nigerian youths through media and technology.
He was named one of Africa’s 30 Innovators 2018 in the recently published Quartz list and is one of the Top 20 Young Entrepreneurs to Watch out for in Africa by the African Youth Forum in Egypt.
Onyeka won the Tech Entrepreneur of the Year in 2017 and 2018 at the Nigeria Technology Awards. He was also presented with an award for being one of the 100 (under 40) Most Influential Young Persons in West Africa. The award was in recognition of his outstanding achievements, entrepreneurial demonstrations and impact as a young African.
