Ghanaian Agritech startup CowTribe has been selected as the winner of the Seedstars Accra. The win has accorded CowTribe a direct ticket to represent the country in the global Seedstars Summit. The summit will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland in 2019. Moreover, the summit will give the startup a chance to win funding valued at $1 million.
Seedstars World, which has been running for five years, is one of the biggest startup competitions for emerging markets bringing together the best tech startup talent from around the globe. The Competitions take place within each of these countries, with the eventual winner given the chance to pitch to global investors at the 2019 Seedstars World competition in Switzerland, providing these early-stage companies with invaluable exposure and a chance to win $1 million in equity and other prizes. Seedstars Accra was an initiative of Seedstars World which is among the largest startup challenges for the emerging markets.
CowTribe was founded by Alima Wawah and Awin Peter in 2015, and it is based in Tamale. CowTribe provides an on-demand mobile (USSD-based) subscription service based on dollar which connects livestock farmers with veterinarians, and helps deliver animal vaccines and other livestock healthcare services to farmers as well as helping in delivering animal vaccines and different livestock healthcare services to farmers.
CowTribe received stiff competition from nine startups that pitched during the Seedstars Accra event. The nine startups were; Agro Innova which is an agritech startup, Jaarnoa (distributor of foodstuff), CodeIn (a coding platform),Redbird Health Tech (a medical diagnostic firm), Bloom Impact (a financial marketplace), Bit Sika Ghana (a Bitcoin exchanger), Okumkom (a food distribution platform), KudiGo and Eazyloop Express an automated shipping service
