Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), a Nigerian- owned company manufactures Nigeria’s first electric vehicle called EMVC Igwe aka “Ajebo Keke” which has been officially unveiled and approved by the Minister of Science and Technology, H E Ogbonnaya Onu.
The electric vehicle, which was assembled by Electric Motor Vehicle Company (EMVC), has been tagged as an innovation that will enable Nigeria and Nigerians to benefit from the gains in renewable and sustainable energy. This innovation will help to foster an eco-friendly environment.
According to the Director General of NASRDA, the unveiling will be followed by a roadshow across the city of Abuja to provide Nigerians with the opportunity to see, feel, and drive the Electric Vehicle (EV).
The Electric vehicle comes in a distinct and special features; reverse camera, bluetooth, fan, mp3 player and its range is 350km per charge that is why it was named EMVC Igwe aka Ajebo Keke.
A popular Kogi State politician, Mr Ahmed Attah said “This is highly impressive, test running an electric vehicle made in Nigeria. Indeed it’s a welcome and great development.
However, the material used to assemble the 100% electric and zero-emission car was mostly sourced locally.
This new development is a move towards replacing internal combustion engine-powered vehicles with electric vehicles, in a bid to reduce environmental pollution and keying into an eco-friendly green environment.
