Dee-Ann Kentish Rogers Becomes First Black Woman To Wear Great Britian’s Miss Universe Crown

Dee-Ann Kentish Rogers has made history by becoming the first black woman to be crowned the Miss Universe Great Britain 2018 winner. She was crowned Miss Universe Great Britain 2018 at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport on Saturday, July 14. She is to represent Great Britain at the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant, Miss Universe 2018.

 

Competing against forty young women from England, Scotland and Wales; Dee-Ann surprised everyone when she was chosen as one of the five finalists, then later, when she emerged as the winner and one to represent Great Britain at the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant, ‘Miss Universe 2018’

Dee-Ann, who is from Anguilla, has a degree in Law from the University of Birmingham. She is an Athlete and has competed twice in Commonwealth Games. Expressing her joy at winning, Dee-Ann said during the crowning that

“My aspiration in participating in the Miss Universe Great Britain Pageant is not only to advance the pageant, but also to experience a new pageant system and to be able to forge a possible bridge for subsequent Miss Anguilla winners to experience the same pageant system,”

The Anguilla Tourist Board has expressed joy as Dee-Ann will be the first from Anguilla to gain such achievement, noting how proud to have made her participation a reality.
