Amazing! This Nigerian Lady Teaches Less Privileged Mathematics In Igbo, Pigdin For Free

Inspired by the announcement the minister for science and technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu made on his plans to teach science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects in various Nigerian indigenous languages, some outstanding Nigerians are already making it a reality.

An intelligent Nigerian lady, identified as Cynthia Onwuchuruba Bryte-Chinule deserves to be applauded for her amazing feat in teaching mathematics in pidgin and igbo language.

The first class graduate from the department of mathematics at the Nnamdi Azikiwe university, Cynthia single-handedly founded PEEL initiative, an NGO which is aimed at improving the educational sector as well as helping the less privileged kids attain top class education through their unique teaching process, especially mathematics, a field which she is exceptionally good in.

The Port-Harcourt based teacher upon observation that her students are majorly drop outs who do not understand English, took it upon herself to simplify the lecturing process by teaching in local Nigerian languages, specifically Igbo and Pidgin.

As a way of reaching out more to the Nigerian youths, and also in reviving the appreciation for the Nigerian local languages which are fast dying, this amazing lady decided to set up free online video tutorials in these local languages.

“I made igbo and pidgin versions of videos and tutorials on mathematics but I discovered that the igbo ones got a wider acceptance. This generation of slay queen’s and kings do not really know their languages so most of them want to learn” she said.

Well Done Cynthia Onwuchuruba Bryte-Chinule
