9-Year-Old Table Tennis Player Trained By Her Dad, Aims To Be A Global Champion

A 9-year-old table tennis player, Aisha Rabiu, who was coached by her father, Olawale Rabiu from the age of six is confident and ready to join the leading Nigerian table tennis players such as Olufunke Oshonaike, Quadri Aruna and others at the international level.

The young award-winning player who plays at De Zenate Club of Ipaja, located in Mosan, Ipaja, attends State Comprehensive Junior College where she is currently in JSS 2.

Her father who coaches her made us know that she has represented her club in several significant competitions within and outside Lagos where she emerged winner of different categories.

Aisha who participated in a popular table tennis competition, Asojuoba held at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos in the year 2018 and 2019 took second place in two categories ( Girls Cadet Single Woman and Miss Double Cadet) and 3rd in the single doubles category.

This earned her an overall award of the ‘ Most Valuable Player’ in her category in the year 2019.

In 2019 she represented Lagos State in two competitions held in Ogun and Kogi State where she was crowned the winner.

During our interview with her, Aisha said her wins so far were made possible because of the continous training and support she got from her dad since she was six.

Mr. Rabiu told Espact Media that he has always been interested in table tennis and he travels to watch the competitions just for fun. He recalled that most times when he attends any game, he takes his daughter, Aisha and he later found out about her interest in it.

Aisha Rabiu’s dream is to play at the international level in the nearest future.
