Ghana’s national reading competition was won by Samelia Mekporsigbe, an 8-year-old Class 3 student at Battor DA Primary School.

She won the Volta Region’s Regional Reading Competition.

The prodigy, together with two other students from the Volta Region team—Sonia Dzidula of Ho West and Victoria Yaotse of Ho—bested their rivals to take home the top National Reading Festival honor.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, a North Tongu legislator, praised the trio on social media for their excellent work.

The legislator particularly took pride in Mekporsigbe, a native of his constituency, saying: ”our little angel kept her promise”.
‘The gallant team and their teachers should expect a handsome package of commendation from the Volta Parliamentary Caucus in due course,” he added. The MP posed in several photos with Mekporsigbe, which elicited congratulatory messages from social media users.

He also stated that they are ready to always support the young chaps in frequent reading competitions and all other competitions.
The 8 year old was given cash gifts and gadgets to aid her reading and writing skills as she grows to become a great reader and writer.
Many messages came rolling in for the young bright student as she became the talk of the whole country on her excellent skills with two of her other mates who equally were outstanding.
