50 Year Old Philip Kweku Emerges 2017 National Best Farmer In Ghana

Philip Kweku Agyemang, a 50 year old farmer from Dormaa West in Brong Ahato region has just emerged the national best farmer in Ghana, 2017.

Kweku bagged this award at the 33rd farmer’s day celebration in Kumasi on Friday, December 1st, receiving g a cash prize of $100,000 , donated by the agriculture development bank (ADB) which has been showing support to farmers with the aim of improving the agricultural sector.

With 28 years of experience in farming, kweku is well known for the variety of food crops he plants every year. He beat 66 other farmers and agric workers and finally emerged winner, receiving the cash award which was presented to him by President Nana Addo Dankwa, Akufo- Addo.

In his speech, president Akufo-Addo expressed his gratitude at all the agro farmers who were working hard towards improving the growth of he country. He went further to state that the theme of the event ‘ Planting for Food and Jobs’ which was aimed at bringing together farmers from across the country was inspired by the government’s vision to transform and modernize agriculture.

“We all buy into agriculture as the source of food and jobs and we have all the ingredients not only to feed ourselves but also to generate jobs, create wealth and prosperity through modernisation and change in attitude towards agriculture” he said.
