21 Year Old Demi-Leigh Crowned Miss South Africa 2017

Beautiful Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters was crowned Miss South Africa 2017 yesterday night at the Sun City Superbowl.

The 21-year-old from Sedgefield, Western Cape went ahead of Boipelo Mabe who was crowned the second runner-up and Adè van Heerden who came as first runner-up to win the 59th annual beauty pageant.

Demi-Leigh says she is determined to make a difference during her reign. She said, “I vow to dedicate the next 365 days of my life to serve the people of South Africa, to be a voice to those who are afraid to, or cannot speak up and to represent the whole of our beautiful nation. I vow to listen, to be there, to help where I can and to recognise that we all want to be heard, we all want to be validated. I hear you, I see you, I am you!”

The judges for the competition included TV presenter, model, actor, designer, businessman and philanthropist Maps Maponyane; singer, actress and radio personality Unathi Msengana; Olympic swimmer and record holder Cameron van der Burgh; and radio presenter, producer and one of the founding presenters of the magazine TV show All Access, Bridget Masinga.

They were joined by fellow judges Gisèle Wertheim Aymes, owner of the Longevity publishing franchise in South Africa as well as Elle and Elle Decoration; Ezra Davids, corporate lawyer and chairman of corporate/mergers and acquisitions at leading pan-African law firm Bowmans; and former Miss South Africa Claudia Henkel
